There are many people who provide nutrition advice. Some people may call themselves nutritionists. The title Dietitian or Registered Dietitian is governed by a code of ethics. To practice as a dietitian, a person must complete a 4 year Bachelors degree with a focus in Foods and Nutrition from an accredited University. They must also complete a dietetics internship from an accredited Canadian internship program. |

The College of Dietitians of Alberta regulates Dietitans in Alberta to ensure that they provide ethical and competent care to the public. |
Late last year the World Cancer Research Fund together with the American Institute for Cancer Research released updated guidelines for cancer prevention. One of the recommendations included eating mostly foods of plant origin. This included eating at least 5 portions (or a total of 400 grams or 14 ounces) of a variety of non-starchy vegetables and fruit every day. Canada's Food Guide recommends at least 7 to 8 servings of vegetables and fruit per day for adults. |
